Bath melts are small solid bars or shapes made from plant butters, that you drop into a bath of warm water to melt, enriching the water with skin nourishing oils. When they melt, they release the beautiful fragrance of the essentials oils bringing a spa experience to your home. The butters soften the skin and leave a protective layer behind when you get out of the bath.
This recipe uses Cocoa (#303) and Shea Butter (#306), both known for their skin softening abilities and Lavender (#102) and Bergamot (#100) Essential Oils for their relaxing and calming properties. You can use whichever combination of essential oils that you like. They are super easy to make and actually only take around 10-15 minutes to make. (They do need a little time to set though!)
60g Organic Unrefined Cocoa Butter #303
23g Organic Unrefined Shea Butter #306
10g Organic Virgin Coconut Oil #203
5g Natural Vitamin E #807
2g Essential Oil (approx. 40 drops)
Saucepan
Heatproof bowl/beaker
Silicone mould (a sweet/chocolate/ice cube mould)
Lavender Petals (optional)
Place the saucepan on the hob a quarter full of water and bring to the boil.
Place your heatproof dish on the saucepan and turn down the heat to a simmer. Make sure the water doesn't touch the bottom of the bowl.
Gently melt the Cocoa, Shea Butter and Coconut Oil in the bowl. Once melted, turn off the heat and carefully remove the bowl from the saucepan.
Allow to cool to around 40°C and add the Vitamin E and your essential oils and stir well.
Get your silicone mould and pour your mixture into the moulds. We filled ours half full as you don't want them too big. Optional: sprinkle some lavender petals while it's still liquid for a bit of extra luxury.
Leave in the fridge to set until they are fully solid. Remove from the mould and store in a jar or pot. Keep them in a cool, dark place as they can melt if they get too warm.
Run yourself a nice hot bath and drop one melt into the hot water. Watch it melt and release all the wonderful oils and aromas of the essential oils. Lay back and relax and let the silky smooth water wash over you.
It will leave your skin velvety, nourished and moisturised.
Why not try making this recipe with your children? They can make the melts (with adult help for the melting, of course), put them in the fridge and have them ready for bath time! 😄
