Dry Hand Cream Recipe

Hardworking hands can be prone to dryness so make sure you keep your hands super soft with this easy DIY hand cream recipe. This recipe contains some of our most favourite organic ingredients including Shea Butter, Lavender oil and Rosehip Oil all chosen for their wonderful beneficial properties and will help your hands stay soft and hydrated.

What you will need

Organic Unrefined Shea Butter (#306)   50g
Organic Rosehip seed oil (#246)   44g
Naissance Natural Vitamin E (#807)   5g
Organic Lavender Essential Oil (#102)   1ml (approx. 20 drops)

We used unrefined Shea for this recipe as it keeps all the benefits and it hasn't been refined in any way. However, it has a distinctive colour and odour, whereas refined Shea is a white, odourless butter that will not overpower the other ingredients in your beauty recipes and has a longer shelf-life. We always suggest unrefined and organic products in our recipes but you can choose which one you feel more comfortable with.
Bursting with natural, beneficial properties including vitamins A, E, F and K, and Oleic and Stearic fatty acids, our Organic Shea Butter feeds your skin, leaving it looking softer, smoother and improving the overall look of your skin's texture. It provides condition and nourishment to skin that needs it most.

Rosehip is massively popular in current skincare applications for its wonderous skincare benefits. It's jammed full of skin loving essential fatty acids including Linolenic Acid (Omega 3) and Linoleic Acid (Omega 6). It contains vitamins E, D and Beta-Carotene which are all free radical fighting antioxidants making this oil ideal for those with mature skin. Our Organic Rosehip Oil is super light and is considered a 'dry' oil which means it is absorbed quickly by the skin and won't leave a residue.

Vitamin E can help prolong the life of your homemade cosmetics because of its antioxidant properties, with the added benefits of extra moisturisation powers. Vitamin E is an all-round useful oil to use in your beauty regime.

Organic Lavender Essential Oil is one of the most popular among the essential oils and it is extremely versatile oil with a plethora of uses. Organic Lavender is one of the best essential oils for facial skincare. Thanks to its cleansing and balancing properties, Lavender Essential Oil is especially suitable for oily skin and can also beneficial for those with mature skin.

How to make

  1. Mash up your Shea Butter in a bowl with a fork until you get a soft consistency. You might find it hard at first so don't be scared if you can't get the consistency right as soon as you start. You might need to mash it up for a couple of minutes.
  2. Mix your Rosehip and Vit E oil in a bowl or beaker and gradually add them to your butter while stirring continuously.
  3. Add your drops of Lavender.

How to use

The cream is extremely nourishing and moisturising so a little goes a long way. We suggest applying a pea sized amount to dry skin at night and leave it to do its work.
